Don’t Lose Focus

6 05 2009

Hey y’all! It’s Mandy here. I just read a fantastic article called “How to Concentrate on Writing.”

Great title, eh? 🙂 Seriously… This article has some great tips on how to focus when we need to. One thing I’ve fought is the discipline of focus. Especially when I use my computer to facilitate my creative process. My computer is also my #1 source of distraction (can I get an amen?!)…

When I’m “in the zone” and the creative sparks are flying, I don’t need this type of discipline. But, let’s face it, how often am I “in the zone?” Not enough. Most of my creativity is expressed through blood, sweat, and tears, which is exactly why I found this article to be helpful.

So, without further ado:

How’s everyone doing?

Go ahead post those links NOW!

I’ll get us started.

I Love You

I’m 3 for 3 the last 3 weeks with my songwriting goal (to write a song per week).

This week I wandered away from my typical worship writing and wrote a silly love song that kind of mashes up a BeeGees sound with a bluesy country sound. Don’t ask me why, it’s just what came out.

Go ahead share your links to your blog posts about your commitments, struggles, and successes!

Writer’s Check-In

18 02 2009

Hey all you Book and Story writers!

How’s it going? Haven’t heard much from you?

Are you churning out miles of literary goodness?

Are you stuck in a morass of lack of inspiration?

Are you putting pen to paper, fingers to keyboard, quill to parchment?

Let us know how things are going.

Sunday’s Coming!

How’s everyone doing?

Please post a link to your blog posts containing your struggles and success…your triumphs and your failures.

The benefit of letting others know is that you’re not alone when you’re struggling to follow through.

It’s also inspiring from a creative standpoint if you see others who are going through the exact same struggles you are. Inspiring? Yes. Honestly, there’s no motivating force as strong as failure. Why? Because who wants to keep failing.

If you have the grit to stick it out and make an effort to try and move forward and maybe even something different…you’ll eventually succeed.

Honestly, in my book, we’re all succeeding when we’re sharing everything…ups, downs, and everything in between.

End of The Week Approaching

How is everyone doing?

Are you finding time to fulfill your commitments?

Are you making time to fulfil your commitments?

Remember that when the clock strikes midnight the day is gone. It’s something we can’t get back.

On the positive side it’s a brand new day! A FRESH NEW START!

If you weren’t able to reach your goals this week don’t be discouraged. Prioritize your time this next week and block out SEVERAL times during the week where you can spend only on your goal. It doesn’t have to be a lot, just make sure that you actually do budget that time in.

Have a great weekend!

a little encouragement…

one thing i wanted to mention here for all of us is…don’t let this become something you stress over or worry about. if you can’t meet your goal for a week or a month…that’s okay. it’s not the end of the world and no one is gonna think less of you!

that’s not what this community is about. we’re here for each other. we all want to succeed and see everyone else here succeed, no question about that. but sometimes we fall behind.

now having said that…we are gonna be on ya, tho. and i, myself, need that badly! cause truth be told…i have a propensity to fail. i do. but this time in my life, if i’m gonna fail – i’m gonna fail trying. i’m not gonna fail because i didn’t try.

so, give it your all. give it your best. and let us, as a community, support and encourage you in the highs and the lows. but don’t give up. keep on going!
